Chapter 1 quote is a report post-Geonosis, where can get the estimated number of casualties the Republic suffered. According to the wookie (legends section), 192.000 clone troopers + 10.000 Clone Commandos + 6 Null ARCs were deployed in the battle.
So according to RepComm and other sources cited in wookie the casualties were:
- 12.000 seriously injured.
- 8000 trooper can walk it off.
- 72.000 remained battle ready.
- Rest of the troopers died.
- And out of the 10.000 Commandos, 4982 died in the battle.

Jango Fett personally handpicks 100 training sergeant to train the most elite part of the army, the best of the best, those who are supposed to exceed standard troopers. And they were wiped out in the Battle of Geonosis. Just like that.
I was curious about the numbers of the Jedi causalties so I looked it up too. Roughly 200 Jedi participated in the battle. We know from the novelization of the AoTC that 100 Jedi was present with Mace Windu at the Arena battle, and only 20 survived + Windu. Jedi were even less prepared for a full-scale war scenario.
That’s how hard and unforgiving was the battle.

and damn, that's a *lot* of clone commandos. that says a lot. interesting too that the jettise casualties were so heavy -- feels like, as you said, they were even less prepared for war.

This is my second attempt with Hard Contact blogging, and I'm having fun with this blogging format! I can blabber about it in so much nuanced detail without worrying about that the wordcount overwhelms someone.
And yes, it is devastating how many clone died in that battle. I mean, imagine, you are a clone trooper finally you meet with your personal heroes, the Jedi who are supposed to be war generals because the propaganda was administered intravenously to their brain, and they look for directions and orders from them. It's chaos. It's pure chaos.

to your point... i wonder also if the jedi get overwhelmed with feeling all the deaths in the Force (psychic recoil, kinda? first with the deaths themselves, and then the grief also, to kinda loop back in your most recent post) and thrown in such a complex, violent situation that requires lighting-fast brutal decisions rather than meditative thought (their strength).
as you know, the chain of command can make or break a battle and they sure all saw it there.
looking forward to your other posts here <3
