Episode 1-5

"We want problematic women in media!" You can't even handle girls from Asobi Asobase.

Just watched that episode where they derogatory made fun of men wearing women's clothes and calling them perverts and also Kasumi turned out, she doesn't just afraid/hate men, she is that kind of misandrist girl who is ALSO A YAOI FAN and writes fanfictions about men having sex, while claiming flesh and blood men shouldn't go near to women at all.
Honestly this describes my experience with a local anime fandom back in 2009 that also had very twisted mindset about gays :D You can love fictional gays and you were encouraged to write yaoi, but if you were gay/lesbian IRL, off with the gulag with you, because it's disgusting and perverted.

I have a feeling that people who reads this entry will misunderstand me I want to say: children are mean. They are mean and cruel and pretty much capable of harming others, sometimes intentionally, sometimes not even deliberately. Children are not pure and innocent and by the time they get to school, their own environment is pretty much shaping them. Especially drop that fucking toxic mindset that girls are pure and innocent beings who can't hurt a fly.

And these girls in this anime are trying to find their own way what is cool, what is CONSIDERED socially cool vs what they really want. Like we have Hanako who is constantly slut-shaming popular girls (behind their back) or doing schadenfreude on girls who were caught on sneaking in make-up, while in truth, she herself wants to be popular, she wants to learn how to apply make up, she wants to have sex, but this is basically an outcast's reaction to things they can't get: I can't have it, so you shoudn't you, therefore you are a slut.

Yes. I can find the psychological and sociological deepness in high school girl animes too, shut the fuck up.

Btw I love this genre of animes where they take a completely mundane topic, like what games middle-schoolers play when they are bored and then they manage make it somehow completely unhinged and not boring at all. With the very expressive art style that plays with the contrast of looking really pretty shoujo like in one moment and then extremely twisted in the other. And BOOOOOOy, the girls. Hanako, Kasumi and Olivia are just... REALLY SOMETHING XD

The setting is in an all-girl school btw.
:: Hanako is spoiled as fuck, comes from a rich family but often she forgets how priviliged she is. She SCREMS. A LOT. She envies other girls who are more popular than her.
:: Olivia's parents are from the US but she was born in Japan and she lived in Japan all her life so she doesn't know shit in English or about the culture of the US at all. But she likes messing around with people, especially with Hanako, so she pretends she doesn't understand Japanese.
:: Kasumi is a very repressed girl, who hates having fun, because whenever she lost games against her older sister, she made her doing chores. This made her DEADLY SERIOUS at games.

And the story starts with Kasumi wanting to take english lessons from Olivia - who doesn't know shit in english -, but she doesn't want to stop messing around, so she challenges Kasumi: if Kasumi can defeat her in a game, then she will teach her in english. And this leads to the beginning of the Pastimers club (they use a word for it which makes people constantly confused because they associate to jobless old men trying to find pleasure in women), where they killing time with games and shenanigans. And eventhough the truth is come to light, they still become best friends even more after that.

btw back then this was the scene that made me even start this anime. :D

ooooh this sounds very very crunchy and realistic to how mean kiddos can be lol, without falling into the stereotypes for plot.

i kind of laughed sympathetically to your mention of 2009 fandom because YEAH it was.... exactly that. there was some progress being made but the "real world" homophobia and the hypocrisy was... a lot. (I'm throwing myself in that bucket too; i was just getting out of a fundamentalist/religious upbringing then and said some stuff i wish I didn't. it could have been worse but even still.)

really pretty art style to this anime too! :o
