Kal has memories of normalcy. Faint ones. As in having a civilian life. He is from a worker family after all. Mom and Dad loved him for who he is just because he existed. Ideally you don't raise a child because you want to invest in them or you want them to be useful. You give life to them, because you want them to exist. This was Falin Mattran. And having Mama and Papa taking care of him and loving him is the only thing he remember about the world without pain and misery. And this life was taken away.

But the truth is, Kal has no idea what is normalcy. What is civilian life. He has no idea what is to have a family where people are staying together, where parents are not absent, and their brains won't get blown out and the walls don't get exploded into the dining table. He only knows the shadow of something he yearns. He just knows that the happiest time of his life was a very short one and it ended abruptly.

Kal is the anchor of normalcy, a moral anchor to the Null ARCs as well, but he is just as antisocial as them.

The question is, which society is the standard for Kal? The Mandalorian one and living by the Resol'nare? Or being an aruetii civilian?

I want the Coruscant Guard bring terror to the people's heart who once fled from their own wartorn planets and come here to Coruscant in hope of better life. I want the Coruscant Guard tear off bandages of barely healed generational traumas. I want the locals being so ignorant about, because they never visited other planets, they never saw war with their own eyes, who never opened history books. They don't recognize the signs. They only see the results: less crimes on the streets. Visible actions against criminals. Against "terrorism". Against "enemies". They are so much better than the good-for-npigs at he CSF, we don't need them.

"We are here to protect you. We are here to protect you from our enemies." is the most creepiest things people can parrot over and over and over and over and over again. (i'm alright why do you ask)

Fascism doesn't ram into your house, it politely knocks on your door and you gladly invite it for a tea.

This can't be happening in the very heart of the Republic, right?

(i need a coruscant guard pfp.)
mamuzzy: (zeerabbit)
One of my problem with the Fandom's approach to the Coruscant Guard and its conversations about them, that one half of the fandom thinks they are just some tormented customer service guys, and the other half is thinking that they are the space equivalent of the USAmerican police.

Lately I'm thinking about a lot how to put the Coruscant Guard into the Republic Commando universe, because neither of the forementioned options fits into the vibe. I consider a third option: They are the loyal secret police of Sheev Palpatine.

I once made a tumblr post about this topic, it wan't really popular. But I liked it so I want to preserve it because this is the basis of every Coruscant Guard headcanon i make lately.

----
In the old canon, while the Coruscant Guard was a subdivision under the GAR, and stationed Coruscant, they worked separately from the Special Operations Brigade. Coruscant Guard is a part of the Homeworld Security and actively aided the Coruscant Security Force (CSF) which is THE CORUSCANT POLICE.

When the CSF requested aid, the Coruscant Guard acted for them as a RAPID FORCE: The Guard came and get the shit done (hence why they are called shocktroopers). The Coruscant Guard could also use the resources from the CSF if they needed to complete their mission.

WHY CLONE TROOPERS WORKING WITH THE POLICE IS A PROBLEM?

  • Because the line between being a military force and police or military police starting to get blurried. It is not explicitly stated that the Coruscant Guard was a military police. But also it is not stated they weren't. It's a murky territory.
  • Sheev Palpatine is a Supreme Chancellor who - due to Emergency Powers he keeps the whole Republic under during the war - has unlimited commanding over laws and how to ulitize clone toopers.
  • Sheev Palpatine can't use the CSF as his personal army. But he has THE MILITARY. He can do with clone troopers whatever he wants. He just has to give them policeforce tasks!
Some danger happening WITHIN the border and Palpatine is being justified to make more laws and laws to solidify his own authoritan rule DEMOCATRICALLY. He creates fear, he creates enemies so he can offer the solution to those enemies as well.
- He can rewrite the laws.
- He can enforce the laws.
- The Coruscant Guard can arrest anyone the Supreme Chancellor claims they are enemy/CIS Agent/Terrorists, etc. and put into jail. And who and what is a terrorist and CIS agent? Whatever the Chancellor wants it to be. This is how you make your enemies disappear WITHIN the borders.

Coruscant Guard known duties:

-- Guarding the governmental buildings and other important infrastructural places
-- They are patrolling the streets
-- They guard and maintain the detention center. They are the prison guards too.
-- They can chase down criminals and arrest people and put them into the said prison ---> just for comparison, unless there is martial law, soldiers are not responsible for enforcing civilian laws
-- Diplomatic service, they are bodyguards to senators/Jedi ---> when they escort senators or Jedi master into diplomatic missions either within planet or off-planet. -> This is now peacekeeping, which is military duty.

This gives PLENTY of opportunity for corruption, and please, please, please, always, ALWAYS assume that while Palpatine was in power, he placed his own lackey in EVERY. POSSIBLE. PLACE. that can serve him. The senate. The natborn police. The military. Education. The media. ESPECIALLY JOURNALISM.

Also there is an also little to known fact from the old encyclopedias that while the Coruscant Guard were Fett Clones, and were bred on Kamino, THEY WEREN'T RAISED ON KAMINO. Along with the 501st, they were transferred to Coruscant for training (please don't ask me about the logistical issues about this). -> this I can see as the complete ensurement of full, complete loyalty to Darth Sidius (in the Guard case) and Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader (501st case). AND NO INHIBITOR CHIPS!!!!!!!

Darman swore a revenge against every existing bird in the galaxy after the Qiilura mission. He sees a bird on a restaurant menu and he is like: I will destroy you.

He sees a bird in a street and he is like:

(gif: dottores.tumblr.com)

[Dar aggressively eats the bird dish]

Niner: You know it was already dead, right?

Darman: I make it more dead. I make it disappear. Nobody will remember it. Not even its partner. Its children. Its flock will forget about its existence like it was never even born. Not even the chef who made it.

Fi: Whoa-whoa-whoa, chill, edgelord!

A'den: Actually, by eating it, you are going to have to digest it. And by digesting it, eventually you have to excrete it. The bird will return into the nature  and will fertilize the soil, making new life born from it. Worms will feed from the soil. Bird will feed their chicks with the worms. The chicks grow up, and they will flew into another ship engine once again. This cycle of violence will only end, if you die, Darman.

Darman: Not if I take a shit in outer space.

Fi: Great, at least when I see a turd flying by the viewport, I can pretend it's just birds.

Atin: WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU???

A'den: Can you hold it back until we go outer space, Dar'ika? Hmmm? Can you~~~?

(more headcanons from my tumblr)

I think when the Nulls realized that Kal can be trusted, they went out, wreck a little havoc with the knowledge they can hide behind Kal's back, because this tiny man who is constantly angry FOR them, but kind TO them, is going to protect them until they get strong enough to do it themselves. They became little devils, feral little kittens. Well, feral kittens who can and will fool an adult, and can hold a gun. But mischief is not the reason Kal had hard time with them. It's because the Nulls at first constantly tested his boundaries.

Where are Kal's limits? Where this new toy will break? Can they break this person? Is it possible to break him? They don't want to break him, but what if they break him? What if they break him and this person won't love and protect them anymore? If Kal breaks under such pressure, did Kal loved them in the first place? Wasn't he just pretentious? When will get Kal bored of them just like the Kaminoans?

Kal was constantly put under tests of loyalty. They did this in their own individual way of course, some are subtle, some are not that much. These feelings/symptoms were lessened by their adulthood (they are better to hide it, more like).

It's not because Kal gives then any reason not to trust him, but some things in their brain is just messed up like this.

(saved from tags)
> Kom'rk did the hardest in these loyalty games
> Jaing was the most intense
> Mereel just liked to push buttons by default and see kal's reactions
> A'den wanted to sleep leave him alone.
> Prudii hide deliberately to see if Kal will look for him
> Ordo punished everyone who participated in these games

Ordo's own fucked up humor feels like if he's cooking and it's delicious and someone's asking about the secret ingredient he just says it's cyanide.

mamuzzy: (ordo skirata)
There is a thing as "too much happiness", and I like to include this with Jaing when putting him into scenarios. Simply because I imagine him being really emotional, or more like, having trouble with emotional regulation. As an adult, he is more disciplined to not throw out full blown tantrums, screaming, and hurting himself during his fits, but the emotional intensity is still there.

But I think this emotional intensity is present when experiencing positive emotions too. Jaing can get too excited about things, that his brain and body can't handle it, but this is the complete reverse of the tantrums. This is silent, and from the outside it would look like, he is just spacing out. Shapes suddenly not making any sense, he sees objects, he maybe recall their names, but the concept around them just doesn't make sense. This state of high is too much he doesn't even feel happiness anymore. Or anything.

He has to sit down. Focus on a point, preferably in a dimmer lights. And come back to himself.

The drop from this happiness high can be really intense too. He always swears he will never have fun again, only in controlled environment (haha, good one) and the cycle starts over.

(doing the responsible thing again and saving my hcs from tumblr :D)

Mereel likes to push buttons to see how people are reacting and he is satisfied with whatever reactions he can get. Ultimately he doesn't care.

Kom'rk likes to push buttons to test if loved ones are willing to stay even when he shows them his worst side. What about strangers? If they can't handle a little teasing then they weren't worth his attention to begin with.

(saving this from my tumblr)

So I saw the Lactating Woman-Starving dog dilemma on tumblr and I instantly thought of Kom'rk.

Komr'rk doing the Game of Lesser Evil on Etain (also probably their first meeting)

Kom'rk: If you are locked into the room with a dog, and you are both starving, but you are lactating, would you feed the dog to save it?

Etain:

Etain truly growns as a person when she realizes, no, she is not the problem, it's really the Nulls ARCs are the ones sometimes who are hard to get along with, especially after meeting with Kom'rk and experiencing one of his games.

Kom'rk favorite game is the Game of Lesser Evil, where he challenges the other player with fucked up moral situations and makes them choose between two equally morally bad solution to a problem.

Headcanons about Mereel & Jaing and their sibling dynamic.

•─────⋅☾ Mereel is a hard worker ☽⋅─────•

Mereel is a hardworker. He had to be, because he felt he always needed to compete with 5 six other brothers for attention, and that was already a lost-cause due to Ordo being the absolute favorite of Kal. Mereel would spend hours and hours and hours to just acquire a new skill and when he is done, he will go to the next one. He is a skill-hoarder for the sake of "you will never know when you need it". He takes pride in his work, but also this is escapism. Constantly occupying himself either with studying or seeking pleasure/adrenaline.

•─────⋅☾ Jaing is efficient ☽⋅─────•

Jaing over the years realized that why do things the hard way, when he can achieve the same result with less effort? Why need to get buried under the boulders of responsibilities and duties just for the sake of being a martyr? His absolute currency is TIME. No wonder he is the best tracker in the GAR.  And if there is resource that can be syphoned for his own gain, he will syphon it. The Galaxy is his own playground, there are no locked doors for him. Jaing adores Ordo because Ordo understands him and his mindset about loopholes and exploitable grey areas.

•─────⋅☾ Their mindsets are often clashing ☽⋅─────•

I think when Jaing and Mereel gets into fight, their conflicts are about their different mindset. Mereel despises Jaing for not suffering enough for the gains and victory (same way he despises Ordo that he really doesn't have to work Kal'buir's love. Ordo just has to be... Ordo). A twisted wordview, where Mereel channels his own bitterness into this, that no matter how much he puts into the table he feels its not enough (your typical middle-child syndrome).

Jaing hates that Mereel is a whiny bitch. "Why would you put yourself under such pressure if it causes you so much pain? Are you a masochist or something?"

•─────⋅☾ Compromises ☽⋅─────•

They usually make up by going to party together. Window shopping, drinking, dancing, trying out arcade games. Learning from their previous conflict, Jaing politely allows Mereel to be a big hard worker hunter and spoil the money for those rigged claw machines for the "sake of the hunt and adrenaline" and when Mereel is desperate enough to win that prize plushie, he offers to slice it for him.
mamuzzy: (ordo skirata)
Mereel learned so early that no matter what he does, no matter how hard he works and studies, he will never steps out of Ordo's shadow. And Ordo is not particularly talented in anything, or specialized, and not particularly ambitious.

What makes Ordo special that he is viciously protective and brave and those are the traits that he shares with Kal himself. It's during the war when he actually utilizes the psychological warfare the best that he learned from Kal. Because Ordo keeps learning directly from Kal on the field.

(Addition: We have seen Ordo slicing a lot but those are immediate ones like reprogramming a droid, or already knowing door codes. But for serious slicing, you had Jaing. And damn if Jaing actually used his skills to do bad things, the whole galaxy would have been fucked.)

Now what has Mereel? Literally everything else. Even the other Nulls have more specializations than Ordo.

Kal can't do shit with science, and mathematics, and chemistry and all those stuff Mereel is especially talented at. Kal is uneducated. Every skill he learned is literally practical skill on the field, not helping that he is a bit technophobic. So it doesn't matter that Mereel can easely outshine Ordo in these fields (even by Null-standards), Kal can't appreciate the hard work because… he can't comprehend it even by regular natborn education standards. He tells them all the time he is proud of them, but also he is constantly tells them that practical skills much more important than the ones they learn from books/flash training... it tells them different message. It's contradicting. Kal maybe hurt Mereel without him realizing.

So Mereel while he never stopped being hard working, he became adrenaline junky. And with it, he is one of the few Nulls who directly disobeys Kal'buirs orders when the situation rewards fits (see the short story: ODDS). Mereel undertakes risky shit to shine, just to gets Kal's attention because he think he will never get it otherwise. He will risk his life, because he thinks he will never get love otherwise. He feel he needs to bring tribute and needs to be useful to get this love.

He knows that not even saving the whole clone-kind will be enough to get him from Ordo's shadow.

Mereel is completely aware that Ordo doesn't get attention because he is better at anything he does. It's because Ordo LACKS. It gives Mereel freedom but also such heartbreak and jealously it tears him apart. It's a contradiction.
