WHY IS EVERY FUCKING REPCOMM BLOG IS LIKE
"I love RepComm but I hate the author and the books so much so I create an au where the characters are former shadows of themselves, everyone love each other, and of course everyone is politically correct and nothing bad ever happens to anyone."
WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU EVEN LIKE IN THESE BOOKS THEN??? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Date: 2026-04-02 02:53 am (UTC)From:you know, i remember at the tail end of my repcomm RP days several of us were considering rewriting ImpComm specifically (we all liked the other RepComm books but, even now, i would say ImpComm has a slightly different textural vibe to it and does some of the characters dirty in a 'this feels unfinished' sense.
we were... overly ambitious, a bit young, so i'm glad it didn't go through, but with the wisdom of time, i don't think it would *have* gone through since inevitably some of the harder edges would have been sanded off. i think this group was less likely to be full anti-adjacent but even still, it's hard to push back especially if the planning's so public and porous.

Date: 2026-04-03 10:49 am (UTC)From:My problem with these "fix-its" I mentioned, that they are coming with these kind of virtue-signalling: "Uhm hey i like repcomm BUT I'M ONE OF THE GOOD GUYS I SWEAR!!!" and this makes me want to twist my own body into angles that tear a black hole into the fabric of the universe so I can disappear into it. It's like, encouraging this self-flagellating behavior in the fandom: you can only enjoy RepComm if you say 10 "E nomine Patris" as your weekly sin-repellent, but instead of enominepatris you say "I hate Karen Traviss/her books/her main characters" so you show people that you shake your head the whole time while reading, drawing, writing or just thinking about them. It's so annoying.
Because I know you liked the books, through this lense it made me curious, what parts did you want to change in Imperial Commando? (。· v ·。) ?

Date: 2026-04-09 10:21 pm (UTC)From:and ohhh yeah gosh the fix its out of virtue signaling are obnoxious... it's pretty clear that oftentimes the people writing those are dealing more with their *own* demons and fears with fiction and being scared of what other people think than any real respect towards the text itself.
let's see, my thoughts on impcomm.... loved the seediness of the characters from the previous books, none of that would be touched, much to your delight. :3 i think what i had issues with was a few of the character's arcs felt aborted - there was a whole build-up about the cuy'val dar (vau, mij) versus the death watch that didn't really go anywhere. the kaminoan force-sensitive (forgot her name) being smuggled in also didn't really go anywhere as a whole plot point, ditto with the idea of everyone being found out on mandalore and eventually deciding to escape to a space station as a base.
(cannot remember whether that last point was in the books or in traviss' blog notes.)
i think i read on traviss' old blog post was there was another book or two planned where all of that would have had the room to be expanded on, but that was right before disney brought star wars so she had to very hastily cram everything on one book, and i gathered through subtext that she was becoming increasingly pissed off with star wars fans she kinda wanted to be done with the franchise.
